12 Video Game Inspired Shoes
It was Forrest Gump’s momma that said “there’s an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes”. I second that. Here are 12 of the best “I’m a gamer” shoes I’ve ever seen.
1. SNES Sneakers
I have no idea how the modder fit a functional NES into a sneaker sole but the design is a certified blockbuster… like Mario on speed. I’m guessing these kicks aren’t meant for walking, but you’d definitely to get props for entering the house party wearing these.
2. Street Fighter Dunks
Personally, I miss when coin-op arcades were on almost every corner. So when I see Nike’s SB Dunks, inspired by Chun-Li’s blue/white and Ryu’s red/black/white, I get a bit depressed. With that said, if Nike ever rolls out Guile green/brown Dunks I’ll get over it faster than a sonic boom and promptly pick up a pair.
3. X Box Shoes
You’re looking at an imitation X Box controller built into the sole of the shoe… that doesn’t actually work. Heelys should stick to making roller shoes for kids; at least those have a smidgen of practicality. Then again, the kids will probably love these things and make them a bigger hit than the oh-so-useless pet rock of the 70’s.
4. Gameboy Platforms
Yep, the Gamboy in the platform actually works. Nope, the Pikachu doesn’t throw lightning bolts. These shoes are big business in Japan, and if they ever hop the pond I’ll be the first in line.
5. Tron Shoes
Somebody should fire the photographer, because everything that makes these sneakers kick-a@@ is missing. Sure the light cycles you can see are a nice touch, but the Tron depiction on the tongue is much cooler. Plus, the shoe sole – or outside bottom – depicts the Master Control Programmer.
6. Nintendo Sneakers
A few C-notes gets you the flyest Chucks on the block, guaranteed. These “Nintendo All-Stars” are hand painted, customized to your choice of size/color/detail, and only found on the occasional EBAY auction held by the artist.
7. Tetris Skate Shoes
Are these custom painted slip ons? Are those… Tetris blocks?!? Apparently I’ve died and gone to heaven and, yes, there is a God.
8. Sonic Nikes
I’m fairly certain the only thing that could make Nike Air Force Ones any better is a tribute to Sonic and Knuckles. D@ Prince Customs is behind this design, pitting the “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” on opposite feet.
9. Final Fantasy Moogle Shoes
Moogles get forgotten by the Final Fantasy merchandising machine. Big props to Daniel “Brass Monki” Reese for giving the Moogle 5 minutes of fame with these cute (and girly) custom Nikes.
10. Halo Shoes
I got friends from my college days that are probably still locked in a dorm room somewhere fragging the snot out of noobs. Me thinks these would make a great Christmas gift. Adidas is only making 100 of them, and the black leather base material helps account for the $110 price tag.
11. Pac Man Shoes
40 bucks gets your hands on these Pac Man inspired slip-on loafers… a steal IMHO. Ben Sherman is the proud creator behind these loafers, and he made sure to mark each pair with his (manufactured) signature.
12. Ms Pac Man Shoes
I think these are more for the retro crowd than reminiscent 70’s babies, as I can’t picture many grown women wearing these. Still, they are cute and the designers get extra points for the…err…. point pellets that ring the shoe body.
